ICAI – IFRS Foundation Trustees Joint Stakeholders Event 13th October 2016, New Delhi
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) jointly with the Trustees of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Foundation organized the Stakeholders Event on 13th October 2016, a very special event to address the roadmap of Ind AS and IFRS relationship in India.
As you all are aware that the IFRS Foundation is the oversight body of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and includes governance and oversight, undertaken by the Trustees, and support operations thereof. Further, as a part of G-20 initiative, the Government of India had committed and has converged with IFRS issued by the International Accounting Standards board (IASB) of IFRS Foundation.
The event had detailed deliberations on “Indian Perspective on IFRS’ by the representatives of Chartered Accountancy profession and Government of India.
During the meeting between ICAI and IFRS Foundation leadership on 14th October 2016, the two sides discussed various operational issues related to Royalty, Secondment opportunities for ICAI employees at the IFRS Foundation and contribution by India to the IFRS Foundation were deliberated in detail.
I hope such opportunities and initiatives of ICAI would help build a strong momentum for the Accountancy profession worldwide for India and more similar opportunities would be awaiting in future for ICAI to host such International organizations.
Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA) Board and Committee Meetings on 20th to 21st October 2016 and ICAI International Conference 2016: “Jnana Yajna: The Quest for Excellence” on 22nd and 23rd October, 2016, Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), Hyderabad
The ICAI International Conference Jnana Yajna – The Quest for Excellence was successfully held in Hyderabad from 22 – 23 October, 2016 wherein more than 3500 delegates from all across the India and World participated. The Conference was inaugurated by Shri M Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Minister of Urban Development, Govt. of India. The International Conference delved on many topics like Accounting Standards, GST, Competitiveness of SMPs, Corporate Fraud, International Taxation and was targeted for capacity building of profession for being relevant in the current context.
In the International Conference H H Shri Chinna Jeeyar Swamji addressed the delegates on Importance Ethics and Moral Values in professional life. Also, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Hon’ble Minister of State for Finance, Govt. of India addressed the International Conference. Ms. Jackie Poirier President, Confederation of Asia Pacific Accountants (CAPA), President, Chartered Accountants worldwide and senior functionary from IFAC, IFRS addressed at the International Conference. The Conference was also, addressed by luminaries from Govt. and Industry namely Ms. Rani Singh Nair ,Chairperson CBDT, Mr. Sanjeev Sharma, Commissioner – APA, Income Tax Department, Ms. Sangita Reddy, Joint MD, Apollo Hospital Enterprises Ltd., Dr. Anil Khandelwal, Members- Bank Board Bureau & former CMD Bank of Baroda to name a few.
The International Conference was attended by about 100 delegates from more than 30 countries, wherein 9 ICAI Overseas Chapter were also present.
Sidelines to the International Conference the Institute also hosted the CAPA Committee and Board Meetings on 20th and 21st October 2016 at Hyderabad. The Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA) is the Regional Organisation representing national accountancy organisations in the Asia-Pacific region. Today, CAPA has a membership of 32 accountancy organisations in 23 jurisdictions. CAPA also aims to enhance the accountancy standards and development of the profession by promoting harmonisation through the adoption of international accounting standards. To achieve this, CAPA works closely with the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), other regional accounting organisations, and major international and regional development agencies such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, OECD, and UNCTAD to discuss aid projects for developing and emerging economies.

Africa- India Partnership: ICAI Conclave with Ambassadors/ High Commissioners of African Continent Nations on 8th August, 2016 (5:30 pm -8:00 pm) at Hotel Le Meridien New Delhi
The International Affairs Committee and Committee on Economic Commercial Laws & WTO of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India organized an exclusive Africa-India Partnership Conclave 8th August 2016 at New Delhi. The Conclave was attended by Ambassadors/High Commissioners/Trade Consulates from 17 African Countries. Shri Amitabh Kant, Chief Executive Officer, NITI Aayog, Mr. Satbir Singh, Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Mr. Sudhanshu Pandey, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Shri Diptiman Das, Chairman and Managing Director, EdCIL (India) Ltd., and CA. Akhil Gupta, Executive Chairman, Bharti Infratel Limited, addressed the Conclave. The Conclave was also addressed by CA. Ved Jain and CA. G. Ramaswamy, Past Presidents of the ICAI. The Representatives from Industry Associations like ASSOCHAM, CII and FICCI were also present in addition to ICAI Council.The objective of organizing the Conclave with African countries was that how the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India can help African countries to establish Accounting Institute in their economies where the same does not exist and in further strengthening the accounting infrastructures in those countries where the same exists. The Conclave also deliberated that how ICAI commitment to promote and facilitate the establishment and strengthening of accountancy infrastructure worldwide.
- International Conference “Accountancy Profession: Spearheading Excellence” was organized on August 7-9, 2015 at Indore that aimed to bring together all its intellectual stakeholders from across the globe. The Conference was inaugurated by Chief Guest ITAT President Justice (Retd.) D D Sud and the Guest of Honour IFAC Immediate Past President, Mr. Warren Allen.
